When a session calls for city energy, I head to High Falls. It's a downtown district built around a 96-foot waterfall, and between the historic brick buildings, cobblestone streets, and that dramatic drop of water in the middle of it all, it's one of the most striking locations Rochester has to offer.

What Makes It Work

  • The Waterfall — a genuine natural feature right in the middle of the city, great for dramatic wide shots.
  • Pont de Rennes Bridge — a single vantage point that captures both the falls and the Rochester skyline.
  • Historic Architecture — old brick factories, textured walls, and iron staircases add an industrial edge.
  • Cobblestone Streets & Murals — plenty of color and character for clients who want something with more personality.

Who It's Best For

High Falls is one of the most versatile spots I shoot — high school seniors get edgy, standout backdrops, couples get magic sunset shots overlooking the falls, and professionals get a modern, confident look for branding and lifestyle work. It's a location that flexes to whatever tone the session needs.

Planning Your Session

  • Golden hour is best. Warm evening light plays beautifully off the brick and the water.
  • Dress for contrast. Neutral tones pop against the brick and stone, while bold colors bring energy to the urban setting.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. There are several great shooting spots within walking distance.
  • Consider a weekday. The district can get busy on weekends — weekdays give us more room to move.
